We have a Greenstar 24i junior Worcester boiler. When we switch it on the green indicator light comes on and the blue mains on/off indicator light also comes on but after a few minutes the indicator light flashes on and off then the blue light and reset lights start flashing, somestimes the sequence is: red red blue and other times its red blue red blue. I've pressed the reset button umpteen times and the whole process repeats itself. The radiotors keep going off unless I press the reset button but it only lasts for about five minutes before it starts flashing again. The button with the little spanner symbol is also lighting up now and again. There is also a loud banging noise coming from the boiler sometimes when I press the reset button. We have phoned the Home Care number and they are shut until Wednesday 29th December! Is it best to switch the boiler off or leave it on with the reset button flashing so that the pipes don't freeze up?

you have released air from the wrong place. that valve is part of the expansion vessel which needs sufficient back pressure in it to allow the system to expand and contract. thats why your pressure rises dramatically when hot. what you need to do is find out what the pressure needs to be in the expansion vessel (poss about 1 bar)and get someone to isloate the boiler and drain part of it and then (with a car foot pump) replace the air that you have released. then refill the boiler, bleed all rads and fire her up!

the pressure on the boiler stays between 2-3.5 bar and occaisonally rises above this. The problem appears to have started when the bathroom was refitted and the plumbers switched the pipes so that some of the heated water passed through the boiler a second time causing in to switch on and off frequently. The problem has been solved but the pressure problem still remains.

Have just bought a house & moved in today. The Worcester combi boiler which was only installed 1 year ago was serviced & certificated 2 weeks ago but does not work! When boiler is turned on it starts, but after 2 minutes it stops & the reset button flashes, so no hot water or central heating! Please can someone help us?

the pressure rise is due to heating water expanding, this is not a problem and will always happen

anyone that has trouble with the guage dropping, you want to basically, stand in front of your boiler and if you see a sliver pipe that flexi with a little black plastic peice and turn that black peice and you hear hissing as it lets water through, and watch as the pressure gauge slowly goes to the recommended pressure between 1 and 2, now if it keeps dropping constantly then you losing pressure somewhere along the system so you better off calling a plumber. I put it in simple terms for all to understand.

lol, reading the instruction manual is a definate even for us gas safe registered people. just some tips for you if your draining your sytem agen, make sure you drain it through the drain off (usually at the lowest point on your heating system by a radiator) DONT USE THE BLOW OFF INSIDE THE BOILER!!! u will find yourself having to replace it coz it wont seat itself properly again and jus drip causing pressure t drop constantly, good look or jus ring an engineer before you have to fork out £850 for a new one coz uve broke it

It fired up this morning for central heating but then did not subsequently come on for hot water and cannot get it to fire up. I have tried switching off at mains and turning it back on but this has had no impact. The boiler when it is not being used has 0bar but this rises when in use to about 1 bar.Any ideas?

when heating goes on expansion from the heat in the water can rise it to a bar of extra pressure
kevo December 2008 |
you should have read the instructions before messing about with it. you have let all the air out of the expansion cylinder. The pressure keeps going up as there is nowhere for it to expand into now. You should remove the water pressure via a drain valve and pump up the expansion vessel (yes the bike valve on top of the red cylinder at the top) up to 0.5bar the n refill the system with water back up to 1bar. If in doubt read the instructions. http://www.worcester-bosch.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=site.viewFile&id=9935
